GREAT Scholarships
GREAT Scholarships are offered by UK universities for postgraduate courses. Each scholarship is worth a minimum of PS10,000 towards tuition fees for a one-year postgraduate course. To apply for this scholarship, you need to have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to enter a postgraduate course in the UK and meet the English language requirements of the university where you intend to study. You also need to have an active interest in the field of your postgraduate course and relevant work experience.
GREAT Scholars must embody the UK higher education experience by attending lectures, tutorials, and participating in extra-curricular activities. They must promote the value of UK higher education and be willing to share their experiences of studying in the UK with others back home. In addition, they must be able to show that they will make a difference in their community after their graduation from a UK university.
The GREAT Scholarship programme is jointly funded by the British Council and the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign. It supports postgraduate students from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Nigeria, Thailand and Turkey to access world-class UK university opportunities. The scheme offers funding for Master's degrees in a variety of subjects at 49 participating UK universities. To be eligible, you must hold an offer of a place at a participating university.
IPCC Scholarships
The IPCC Scholarship Programme supports PhD students from developing countries to undertake research that advances the scientific basis of risks of human-induced climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. Applications from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States researching topics with the field of study chosen for this call for applications are given priority.
Scholarships are worth 15,000 euros per year for up to two years. They are open to PhD students that have been enrolled for at least a year and are undertaking post-doctoral research. Research proposals are encouraged from, but not limited to the following fields: Living soils, biodiversity, regenerative viticulture, agroforestry, water management and terrestrial carbon cycle.
Each applicant should submit a full application, which is to be reviewed by a panel of experts consisting of previous and current IPCC Lead Authors, Review Editors and Bureau Members. The panel will evaluate the applications and their research proposals against a set of criteria, including the level of significance of the research and its potential impact. The application will then be recommended for the award by the panel. All selected applicants will be subject to a background check, and will be expected to sign a confidentiality agreement. They will also be required to demonstrate that they have adequate insurance coverage, covering health and accident expenses, while pursuing their studies.
Fulbright Scholarships
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and has been in operation since 1946. It provides grants for research and graduate study, as well as teaching fellowships to students, scholars, teachers, artists, and scientists from around the world. It also sponsors exchanges of administrators and professors, efforts to bring public officials to the United States, and programs promoting the study of foreign languages and cultures.
Applicants can apply for a Fulbright grant from anywhere in the world. The deadline varies per country, but it is usually between February through October each year. Applicants are required to submit an application, two letters of recommendation, and a detailed academic resume. USEFP does not state a minimum GPA requirement for the scholarship, but it is recommended that applicants have a high undergraduate academic record to have a better chance of being selected.
Medical students are a major focus for the scholarship, particularly those who have a desire to improve the global healthcare system and tackle public health problems in their home countries. For example, the Fogarty Fellowship allows medical students to travel abroad to help fix dangerous conditions in communities that are vulnerable to viral outbreaks. Fulbright scholarships are open to all, regardless of race or ethnicity, national origin or sex, age, religion or geographic location, socioeconomic status, disability, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
